Santa Fe County holds a lot of contrast in a fairly compact area. In Santa Fe itself, older adobe and historic construction sits alongside newer development, and remodel work on established lots is common. Out toward Edgewood and the East Mountains, properties open up into larger rural-residential parcels, while Agua Fria, Chimayo and Pojoaque carry more of a valley-village character, with a mix of older family land and newer building.
Santa Fe's older neighborhoods can have tighter streets and driveways than the county's newer development, so placement there sometimes takes more planning around clearance and parked vehicles. Out in the East Mountains near Edgewood, lots are larger and roads more open, which usually makes for an easier approach despite the longer drive. Agua Fria, Chimayo and Pojoaque split the difference — established village lots with more room than downtown Santa Fe but less than the mountain properties.
